The Ballroom scene is an underground Lgbtq+ subculture origina- ted by African-American and Latin American in New York, Usa, in which people walk and dance for prizes and status at events known as balls. In the beginning around the 1970s, the queer community met in secret rooms. Clandestine spaces where people marginali- zed by sexual orientation or origins challenged each other in cate- gories that subverted the ideal of gender and belonging. Nowadays the Ballroom scene in Italy is constantly evolving and creating new spaces in which to identify. On these runways every gesture, makeup or dress is part of a complex process of identity and liberation. The project aims to tell stories from inside, to better understand what makes this community a space to express and discuss ones path.
