Southern Italy is gladly renowned for its coastlines and breathtaking landscapes, but also known for its numerous environmental disasters, largely resulting from uncontrolled industrial activities. The ongoing project is the result of a collaboration with two journalists and is funded by Columbia University’s Brown Institute. The area under investigation is the industrial zone of Taranto and the oil drilling area in Basilicata. The idea is to create a multimedia platform that documents the impact of industry on people and the environment, combining scientific data, interviews, and photographs to tell a story of pollution and bad administrative management.
